Email Marketing Guide: Do’s and Dont’s for any Email Marketing Campaign
Before Launching Your Email Campaign:
Before launching any email marketing campaign, ensure you follow a few simple checks. Doing these checks can increase the rate of responses, eliminate needless spam complaints, and help you be a more successful email marketer.
I forgot to include a phone number!
Big mistake. You need to ensure your Company Name, address, and phone number are listed on every campaign you do. Do not make a reader click on any link in order to get ahold of you. If they wish to talk, having that phone number is golden. The quicker someone responds to your email, the stronger chance of making a sale.
Remember to get permission!
Opt-in or Double Opt-in is the ONLY method of getting permission for your email marketing campaigns. If you are using an email service to deliver your message, they may kick you out of your service if you are not using Opt-ins. DO NOT USE A RENTED EMAIL LIST!
Add yourself to the email list!
Adding your own email address to the email list will accomplish two tasks. First, it will give you a good idea of when exactly your email gets to you, how it looks in your browser. It also shows you any mistakes you may have not caught. Send yourself a test email before you send to the list.
Do Not forget to include unsubscribe instructions!
There needs to be a clear and simple way to unsubscribe to your newsletter. Make sure you watch how many unsubscribes you get, and analyze why they are leaving. The goal is not less subscribers, but more.
Watch the typos!
There is nothing worse than seeing the simplest of errors in the form of typos in your marketing. Do not rush, make sure everthing is correct in terms of spelling and grammar. Have a second set of eyes view it.
Viral and Social Marketing!
Link to your Facebook Page, your Twitter account, and any other Social Media elements you have. also make sure your users have the ability to forward the email to friends and colleagues. Most email marketing services offer this.
Golden Email Marketing Rules
There are two golden rules of email marketing… don’t always sell and don’t send mails everyday. The emails are teasers which should invoke curiosity through compelling and personal content. They should not be an irritant. There are of course other common items to avoid such as the use of graphics and loud fonts. The marketing strategy of a generalized email to a large group is almost certainly going to fail. An important point to remember is that this is not a mass marketing tool and cannot be everything for everyone.
